This 11-day adventure offers a comprehensive and breathtaking exploration of Ethiopia's diverse landscapes, culture, and wildlife. Upon your arrival at Addis Ababa Bole International Airport, you will be greeted by your tour guide and transferred to your hotel. If you arrive in the morning, a city tour is arranged to explore the city’s top highlights. On Day 2, you will journey south towards Awash National Park, driving through the scenic Great Rift Valley. Once at the park, enjoy an afternoon game drive to spot local wildlife. Overnight accommodation is at Bilen Lodge or Awash Lodge.
Day 3 takes you from Awash to Semera, the capital of the Afar region. On the way, you'll visit an Afar village to experience local life. After arriving in Semera, the necessary permissions are obtained before continuing to Erta Ale, one of the most active volcanoes in the world. On Day 4, you will drive to Lake Afdera, 103 meters below sea level, where you’ll camp and explore the salt extraction area while taking in the stunning desert views at sunset.
On Day 5, you will trek to the Lava Lake at Erta Ale, witnessing an awe-inspiring volcanic eruption. Afterward, you'll return to the base camp, then head to Hamedela, where you will spend the night camping in the desert. Day 6 is spent exploring the Dallol area, known for its sulfur fields and salt extraction sites. After a full day of exploration, you'll return to Hamedela for the night.
Day 7 marks your journey towards Berahile and Hawzien, where the landscape gradually shifts from salt fields to rocky mountains. You’ll also visit the ancient rock-hewn churches of Tigray. On Day 8, you can enjoy the stunning morning views and birdwatching around Gheralta Lodge before visiting additional rock-hewn churches in the area.
Day 9 takes you on a scenic drive to Kombolcha, where you will experience the vibrant local markets. Finally, on Day 10, you will make your way back to Addis Ababa, passing through several towns along the way. If time allows, you will stop at a local market at Kemise, known for its multi-tribal atmosphere. Your adventure concludes with a farewell dinner party, where you can reminisce about the incredible journey before heading to the airport for your departure.
