You will visit the major sites of the Great Rift Valley with its lakes and its wilderness area. Then you will join the beautiful Omo Valley. The Omo Valley is home to many of the most of the well preserved tribal groups in Africa. You will observe many tribes with different traditions and ways of life : Mursi, Konso, Hamer, Benna, Karo, Erbore, Bumi, Omorate, Tsemay, Ari…who have preserved intact their culture and old customs. You will visit villages and local markets which are meeting places for people from different ethnic groups and from mile around. You will also observe sceneries, beautiful nature and endemic animals in the Bale Mountains. The tour will continue until Harar (East part of Ethiopia) known as one of Islam’s holiest centre. On the way, you will visit Awash National Park well known for its wildlife in eastern Ethiopia.
This 13-day tour through southern Ethiopia offers an extraordinary journey through diverse landscapes, rich cultural experiences, and breathtaking wildlife. The adventure begins in Addis Ababa with a scenic drive to Woliso, where you’ll visit the magnificent Crater Lake Wonchi, nestled at 3,220 meters above sea level. The journey continues through the scenic landscapes of Butagira, Langano, and Yirga Alem, with stops at Tiya Stele, Lake Shetan, and Lake Ziway, offering cultural and historical insights along the way.
From Yirga Alem, you’ll travel to Konso, stopping at local villages and markets for an authentic experience of Ethiopia's vibrant communities. The adventure then leads to Jinka and Turmi, where you’ll encounter the fascinating Mursi and Ari tribes. In Turmi, you’ll explore the Omo-Rate region to visit the Dessanech tribes, and in the afternoon, you’ll visit Hamer villages, witnessing traditional ceremonies such as the “Bull Jumping” if the opportunity arises.
Continuing the journey, you’ll drive to Arbaminch, exploring the Erbore tribes and the cultural Konso village. You’ll also enjoy a boat trip on Lake Chamo, known for its spectacular wildlife, including crocodiles and hippos. From Arbaminch, the tour heads to Awasa, stopping at the vibrant Dorze village and the scenic Lake Chitu.
The adventure then leads to the breathtaking Bale Mountains, where you’ll engage in short treks to discover Disho National Park and its unique wildlife, including the rare Abyssinian fox in the Sente Mountains. After exploring Bale National Park, the journey continues to Awash National Park, where a morning game drive offers opportunities to spot various wildlife species.
The tour then takes you to the historic city of Harar, famous for its ancient walls and vibrant cultural heritage. You’ll witness the fascinating hyena feeding show and visit the renowned Aweday chat market. In Harar, the city tour includes exploring the Rimbaud House, Jugol (the ancient walled city), and local museums.
The adventure concludes with a drive or flight back to Addis Ababa, where you’ll have the opportunity for a city tour, including visits to cultural landmarks and vibrant markets. In the evening, you’ll enjoy a traditional farewell dinner with live performances of folkloric dances, celebrating the rich cultural diversity of Ethiopia.
